One of the important subjects in Safavid era is to study the bureaucratic body of shrines and governing system over them that seems not have been comparatively studied yet. The Safavid’s religious tendencies towards the holy shrines in Mashhad, Qom, Rey city, Iraq’s holy cities and Ardabil made a great structural development in both quality and quantity of shrines. The development in turn, brought about more maintenance costs thus more funds should be provided. Providing funds in turn made the development of endowment institutional segments, however the endowments itself, put more weight on bureaucratic body. So the questions are about the form and function of such structure in each shrine as well as the systematic fund distribution among them. This research seeks the answers by applying a comparative approach to draw a clear image of safavid’s shrines administration policy. |
