A comparative study on the trend of spreading Islam in Iran in terms of Time and Geography

Regions and towns in Iran embraced Islam at various times and conditions. This research by applying descriptive analytical inductive approach, studies on the trend of spreading Islam in Iran in terms of time and geography with a consideration of influential aspects on the issue. Findings show that Qazvin, Isfahan and Qom were among  the pioneer regions that embraced Islam. Isfahan is recognized as the first Islamic town in Iran. Azerbaijan, Transoxania and Caspian sea coastal region, although faced strict hardship in expansion era, Khorramdin adherents played a key role in spreading Islam at Azerbaijan region. Some sects like Bih- Afarids, Jahmies, Karramiyyas and kharijites greatly influenced on the spread of Islam in Transoxania, Khorasan and Sistan. Alavids’ religious propaganda in Daylam and Tabarestan had a great contribution in embracing Islam in the region. Amol is considered as the first Islamic town in this area. In Fars region, Zoroastrian religion survived longer than the other regions because of the peculiarity of its people, however with the efforts of sectarian activist, Sheikh Abu Ishaq Kazerooni, Islam eventually overcame the Zoroastrian religion.
