Abstract: (145 Views) |
During the Qajar era, women in Guilan largely occupied marginal positions within the family and society, facing traditional restrictions and economic hardships. This descriptive–analytical study, based on library and historical sources, examines the social conditions of Guilani women in that period. Findings indicate that urban women played a less active role in economic and social activities compared to rural and tribal women. However, with the expansion of modern education and the press, their social and political awareness grew significantly. Women participated in movements such as the Tobacco Protest (nehzat-e tanbāku), and after the Constitutional Revolution, they became increasingly active through the establishment of girls’ schools, the support of local publications, and the formation of associations such as “Messenger of Women’s Prosperity (Peyk-e Saādat-e Neswān)”. By writing petitions and engaging in civil activities, Guilani women began to assert their individual and collective rights, marking the beginning of a new era of social life in Guilan.
